Kodiak College has named its next leader, after being under the leadership of an interim director for the past few months. Sam Hirt, originally from Fairbanks, will take over as the director of the college effective on January 4, 2027.
Interim Director Jackie Cason made the announcement of Hirt’s appointment today, Aug. 12, in an email she sent to University of Alaska Anchorage students and staff.
Hirt was one of three finalists being considered by the university to lead Kodiak College earlier this summer. He also attended a community forum in June hosted at the college during his visit to the island.
According to his resume, Hirt has roughly 15 years of experience as a college instructor at various lower 48 universities, including Auburn and Purdue Global, an online university.
Hirt is currently working as the interim provost at Southern Virginia University. He’s expected to relocate to Kodiak by the beginning of next year.
In the meantime, Cason said via email that she will continue working as the interim director of Kodiak College through the fall semester, which begins later this month on Aug. 24.
