The crew of the F/V Lady Ashley, a Kodiak fishing boat, was rescued Thursday morning, after she began taking on water off Cape Uyak near Karluk.

Another fishing boat, the F/V Gloria Jay, issued a mayday call at about 5:49 a.m.

Melissa McKenzie, a public affairs specialist for the Coast Guard, said there were several good Samaritan boats involved.

“The good Samaritans rescued all four people aboard the fishing vessel, once it began taking on water near Cape Uyak,” McKenzie said. “They made it into their skiff, and they were rescued by another fishing vessel in the area.

And that vessel was the F/V Steadfast, which took the crew from the Lady Ashley to Harvester Island.

The Lady Ashley was beached at Uyak Bay. The Coast Guard’s marine safety detachment is investigating, to find out why the boat suddenly began taking on water.
