While COVID-19 has put a wrench in many social gatherings around the state, the importance of shows of communal solidarity of that nature has not been lost on the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.
To bring Alaskans together, the DHSS has asked Alaska to “Bring Back the Light.”
This event is unique in its concept; on Sunday, December 20th at 5pm, Alaskans are asked to step outside with others in their household and light a candle or turn on a light of any sort, to- in the DHSS’ words- “represent brighter days to come, literally and figuratively. It’s intended to celebrate Alaskans’ resiliency, as well as to remember Alaskans lost to COVID-19.”
Participants are asked to share photos and videos of their recognition of the event on social media using the hashtag #WithYouAlaska.
