The City of Kodiak's very first Tax Free Day was held three weeks ago, and at last night's city council meeting, the chamber's Trevor Brown reported on the results of a survey he made of participating merchants.

Though he only got 15 responses from the 33 merchants he sent the survey to, the results seemed consistent in considering the event a success.

He said the survey respondents all had a positive experience during the March 7th event:

--          (Tax Free 2                 28 sec              "Some of the comments ... for your help in this.")

Both councilmembers Tom Walters and Jack Maker thought the event was a well-run success:

--          (Tax Free 3                 34 sec              "The free tax day ... a success in the future.")

When the city council authorized Kodiak's Tax Free Day, they designated it to be on the first Saturday of March each year until the law is changed. Since the city does not track sales tax receipts on a daily basis, it's difficult to determine how much money consumers saved.
