The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly and the Kodiak City Council agreed Tuesday on the need for community dialogue on climate change in the wake of an October carbon emissions study in Kodiak. The dialogue would delve into the connection between climate change and community sustainability.

Bill Hall is the engagement and outreach coordinator for the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Cooperative Extension Service. He said he works with local communities to facilitate dialogue on a range of issues, including climate change.

Lisa Hupp completed a carbon emissions study for municipal operations in Kodiak in October. She said the inventory was the first step in the Local Governments for Sustainability or ICLEI's five-phase milestone process and that the potential community dialogue represents the next step in the ICLEI model.

ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is an international association of local governments as well as national and regional local government organizations committed to sustainable development. Hupp's study can be found on both the City and Borough's Web sites.
