Thursday, 01 August 2013

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The skipper of a fishing vessel has been arraigned on assault charges after three deckhands abandoned ship.
KTUU reports the 56-year-old skipper of Las Vegas was arrested when the ship arrived Tuesday in Kodiak. Online court records don't list an attorney for the accused.
Alaska State Troopers allege he was reportedly "highly intoxicated" and assaulted two deckhands Monday night on the Oceana Kaylani. Those two, along with a third shipmate, escaped by taking the seine skiff to Kodiak, about 10 miles away.
The skipper was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of assault and driving a boat under the influence. His next court appearance was set for Sept. 9.
