Today is opening day for deer hunters in Kodiak. The season will last for several months, and Kodiak Police Chief T.C. Kamai wants to remind folks that hunting is prohibited in city parks and watersheds.
That may sound like a no-brainer, but Kamai said there have been instances of hunting in those areas in the past.
“From time to time we’ll get reports about folks who’ve been seen in the, mostly in the watershed, and I’m talking about the large public water supply just to the north of Pillar Mountain. And that’s a prohibited area for hunting,” he said.
Deer hunting is permitted in the Kodiak Road System Management Area using all weapon types until October 31. It will remain open to bow and arrow or muzzloaders until November 14.
