Tonight will be a busy night for Kodiak’s governing bodies. The City Council, Borough Assembly and Board of Education will all meet for meetings tonight, some at the same time.
The evening will kick off with a joint work session between the school board and borough assembly. On Monday the board unanimously passed a $48.7 million budget during its regular meeting. That number includes a $10.6 million funding request from the borough, which is the state-allowed maximum. At 6:30 p.m. in the central services conference room the school board will present this request to the assembly. If the assembly denies that dollar amount, the school district will have to take another look at its budget and bring an amended version back to the board at a future meeting.
Following that meeting, at 7:30 p.m., the borough assembly will convene for another work session in the borough conference room. On the agenda for that is a quarterly meeting with the Solid Waste Advisory Board and a budget review of certain borough funds, including the general fund.
At the same time, the city council will hold a regular meeting upstairs in the borough assembly chambers. That agenda includes the second reading and public hearing on an ordinance that will better classify city jobs, adopt a new pay plan and amend definitions in the city personnel rules and regulations, among other things. The council will also vote on a number of resolutions that will allow various groups and entities to use public property for upcoming events. First on that list is permitting the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce to use the downtown area for Kodiak Crab Festival 2013.
All of tonight’s meetings are open to the public and the city council meeting will be broadcast live on KMXT.
