Tonight is the first of three performances of the musical theater production “Man of La Mancha.” The Broadway musical is part of the Kodiak Arts Council’s performing arts series and opens with a cast and crew of around 70 talented locals. Among those involved is Artistic Director Jenny Stevens, who said the show is based on the life and writings of author Miguel de Cervantes (seh-von-tes).

--          (La Mancha 1             :33       “Well, Don Quixote is the inspiration … he calls it.”)

Stevens has been directing theater productions for the arts council for about 25 years and said she began this project much like she has in the past.

--          (La Mancha 2             :33                   “First I look to see if I have ... and powerful story.”)

While Stevens serves as the play’s director, she attributes the entire show to the work done by her team. She said the cast and crew have worked diligently over the past two months to bring the show to life.

--          (La Mancha 3             :44                   “You know I have a terrific … It’s a team.”)

She said the play is interesting in that a lot of the scenes take place in Don Quixote’s imagination, which paved the way for theatric creativity.

--          (La Mancha 4             :46                   “Well there’s some wonderful … love that concept.”)

“Man of La Mancha” opens tonight at 7 p.m. on the main stage of the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased online at Kodiak Arts Council dot org or at the box office before the show. The performance runs through the weekend, with a showing at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The box office will open an hour before every performance.
