The Kodiak High School Bears literally blew past the competition in the Region 3 Cross Country Championships Saturday in Soldotna. Kodiak took the top three places in the boys race and easily won the team title. Senior Trevor Dunbar just as easily won the race, clocking a time 30 seconds faster than his winning mark in the championships a year ago. It was his third region crown in a row. He finished the five kilometer course in just 15 minutes 32.4 seconds. Teammate Sam Salus also cracked the 16-minute barrier to take second in 15-56.8. Kodiak's Dylan Anthony made it a trifecta for the Bears, finishing third in 16-19.7.

The Bears team score of 26 was more than twice as good as second-place Colony, giving Kodiak its seventh consecutive Region 3 championship. Also advancing to the state meet this weekend will be Skyview and Soldotna.

On the girls side, Chloe Ivanoff was the top Bear, finishing a close third in 19-minutes 23.2 seconds. She was less than 20 seconds off the winning pace. Kodiak's team performance was good enough to advance them to the state championship as well, finishing fourth with 81 points. Colony was first with 41, followed by Soldotna and Wasilla.

The state championships will be on Saturday in Palmer.
