The most anticipated match up on the Kodiak High School football schedule did not live up to the hype. In their homecoming game on Saturday, the Bears fell to the Soldotna Stars 48-to-nothing.

Losing two years in a row at the small school’s state championship game made Kodiak especially hungry for a win against the Stars. Many hoped the homecoming game, with the hoopla and boost in school spirit being built up all week would be the perfect chance for the Bears to break the curse against their arch-rival.

But the Bears got off on the wrong foot from the get-go, turning the ball over less than a minute-and-a-half into the game, and the Stars never looked back. The Bears are now oh-for-eight all-time against SoHi.

The Bears are already assured of a play off berth, but where they play their first round game depends on how they do against the Houston Hawks and how Kenai does against SoHi this weekend. If Kodiak wins and Kenai loses, the Bears will likely host a first round-match up here on The Rock.

The Bears-Hawks contest will be a rare Friday afternoon game, starting at 4 p.m. over at Joe Floyd Field. It will be the last regular season game of the year for the 4-2 (3-1 Northern Lights Conference) Bears.
