Last night's school board meeting
was the last for Finance Director Luke Fulp. Fulp has accepted the position of
Chief Business Officer with the Mat-Su
Borough School
District.
Superintendent Stewart McDonald spoke
briefly about Fulp's imminent departure.
"He's a high school graduate
from Kodiak High School. He went off to college and
worked in other districts in other places to become good at what he does, came
back to us and then became our director of finance. We're very proud of him and
the work that he has done."
Fulp
says leaving Kodiak will be difficult.
"In light of all the staff
recognition we've had tonight, I feel like my six years with the district
doesn't stack up as well as some of those folks. It's hard to leave Kodiak
because I've actually been with the district, like Stewart (McDonald) mentioned,
for 19 years and some of those folks that go up here tonight and were
recognized for their retirements were actually my teachers. It's not easy to
leave Kodiak and especially when it's an organization that you've grown up in
and really benefitted from."
In
addition to the move, Fulp will be getting married next month. Fulp's father,
Ian Fulp, recently announced his retirement after nearly four decades with the
City of Kodiak
and will leave the island in September.
