A second juvenile male has been arrested for vandalism and burglary at Kodiak's high school and middle school Saturday night or Sunday morning. The youth is now in the custody of the juvenile probation officer.

The Kodiak Police Department served a search warrant at a Kodiak home on Monday in order to collect evidence and possibly recover stolen property.

Meanwhile, Superintendant Stewart McDonald addressed the Kodiak Island Borough School Board at its regular meeting last (Monday) night about the situation.

--          (Vandalism 1              42 sec              "We had a couple of students ... the walls and lockers.")

McDonald said the custodial and maintenance staff did a very good job cleaning up the mess, but had to come back to do more after students opened their lockers Monday morning.

--          (Vandalism 2              34 sec              "There were several lockers ... missed, was cleaned up.")

The Kodiak Police Department's initial estimate was that damages reached 75,000-dollars, a figure McDonald disputes:

--          (Vandalism 3              32 sec              "We believe that estimate was ... this particular event.")

None of the school board members had any questions about the weekend vandalism, and only Melissa Borton commented on it.

--          (Vandalism 4              16 sec              "I spoke to a few different ... express our thank-yous.")

Authorities are withholding the names and grades of the alleged vandals because they are minors.
