A good percentage of Kodiak's business community went beyond clean Grundens and new Xtra-Tufs on Saturday night for the chamber of commerce awards banquet. That's because, as chamber Executive Director Deb King tells us, the theme was "Putting on the Glitz."

--          (Chamber 1                 27 sec              "And folks came out ... a Lion's Club member.")

Greg Deal was re-elected to the board of directors. He'll be joined by the newly-elected Chris Lund from World Wide Movers, Kris Sockwell from Sampson Tug and Barge, and John Durham from KANA.

The Volunteer of the Year award was given to Linda Kozak, the President's Award went to Dan Rohr, the Retailer of the Year went to Scott and Jamella White, while the Business of the Year went to Brechan Enterprises. King says the Kodiak Daily Mirror won the coveted Member of the Year Award:

--          (Chamber 2                 19 sec              "They were given the award ... within the next month.")

Meanwhile, four businesses shared the Cornerstone Award:

--          (Chamber 3                 34 sec              "KEA for their Pillar ... facility in this community.")

King says the past year was a good one for the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce. She says they won "Chamber of the Year" honors at the State Chamber of Commerce convention in Homer, and communication with members has never been better:

--          (Chamber 4                 36 sec              "I think our efforts to ... quality of life issues.")

Next up for the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce is Com Fish Alaska, which again this year will be a little later in the spring, coming up from April 15th to 17th. Crab Fest will follow at the end of May.
