On Saturday night, the Human Relations class at Kodiak College put on a fundraiser at the Elks Club for a local girl recently diagnosed with cancer. The 20 members of the class raised $7,608 for six-year-old North Star Elementary kindergartener Madilyn Sickafoose, through outcry and silent auctions and all-you-can-eat chili and hot wings for a modest donation at the door, all while being serenaded by a non-stop parade of bands.

KMXT's Jay Barrett was asked to be one of the judges for the chili and wings contest, and brought his recorder along to talk with some of the people involved in the event. You'll hear Christine Pennington, Keeley Wall and Scott Griffin from the class, and contest judges Ron Sears and Petal Ruch (roosh).

The music there at the end was from 10-year-old fiddler Sawyer Olsen, playing with Jim Peterson on mandolin.

If you didn't get a chance to go to the fundraiser Saturday night, an account is set up at Credit Union One to help the Sickafoose family with expenses related to caring for Madilyn, who is in Seattle undergoing treatment.
