At last week's Kodiak City Council meeting, store owner and fisheries activist Rhonda Maker told the council of her plans to attend a rally in Washington D.C., protesting the growth of the catch share quota system of managing the nation's fisheries.

--          (Rally 1                       25 sec              "Fishermen are under the ... coming and participating.")

Maker, who owns the Treasury on the Mall, has long criticized the privatization of fisheries through the catch-share system, and she says it is only increasing under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's new administrator:

--          (Rally 2                       38 sec              "Fishermen in American ... and it's just wrong.")

She said the nation is looking to Kodiak for leadership in the fight against catch shares:

--          (Rally 3                       34 sec              "We all know that ... by doing that.")

The rally that Maker will be attending is just over a month from now on February 24th, on the steps of the U.S. Capital Building.
