The Alaska Travel Industry Association held its annual meeting earlier this month up in Fairbanks, and the director of the Kodiak Island Convention and Visitors Bureau was named to its board. Janet Buckingham said the appointment will work out great for Kodiak.

--          (Buckingham 1                       17 sec              "It feels great ... in a meaningful way.")

Buckingham has been the executive director of the KICVB since 2007.

She said one of the best seminars she attended at the Fairbanks meeting was on attracting movie crews to the state:

--          (Buckingham 2                       27 sec              "The state has developed ... an important way.")

Buckingham said that she hasn't yet crunched the numbers on this year's visits to Kodiak, but it appears the island did better than most other parts of the state:

--          (Buckingham 3                       35 sec              "From what I was hearing ... than most of the state.")

Looking forward to next summer, she said the preliminary schedule for cruise ship season has 20 ships making port here, but with some bigger ships coming in, more passengers are expected.
