Anthony Leads Bears to Region III Cross Country Title

    The Kodiak boys brought home their eighth straight Region Three cross country running championship over the weekend, placing six runners in the top 14, including a dominating win by Dylan Anthony.
    The Bears scored 35 points to edge Wasilla's 39. Palmer was third with 76, followed by Colony, Homer, Soldotna, Kenai, Skyview and Houston.
    Anthony ran the five-kilometer course in 16 minutes and 16 seconds, outpacing second by 36 seconds. Chaven Davidson was fourth, Jake Salus eighth, Jordan Fogle ninth, Caleb Nymeyer 13th and Cole Christiansen was 14th.

    The Kodiak girls placed second with 59 points to Colony's 47. Wasilla was third, followed by Soldotna, Kenai, Homer and Palmer.
    Chloe Ivanoff placed fifth in 20 minutes 2 seconds, 30 seconds behind the winner. Also among the top finishers for Kodiak were Allie Smith in eighth, Sarah Ng (ing) in 10th, and Jaymi Bethea in 11th.
    The Bears will travel to the state cross country championships next weekend.

    On the gridiron, the Bears wrapped up their regular season with a 34-16 loss in Homer. The Mariners held the ball for 35 of the game's 48 minutes. Kodiak managed two touchdowns when their offense got on the field, both scored by Riley McFarlin.
    The Bears finish with a 2-and-3 Northern Lights Conference record, which is good for fourth place. Homer finishes third. Soldotna crushed Kenai 52-27 to take first in the region.
    Kodiak will travel to Fairbanks to play undefeated Eielson in the first round playoffs this weekend.
