Over 200-thousand dollars of federal money was announced for Kodiak area projects on Friday.

The Alutiiq Museum received a 47,715-dollar grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services to care for its photography collection. The project will begin in October and include a monthly historic photo e-mail broadcast. The museum announced the grant on its Facebook account, and urged readers to "stay tuned for more."

The U.S. Department of Commerce is giving 60-thousand dollars to the Kodiak Area Native Association to establish an economic development program. The project is designed to attract private capital investment and job creation.

And the Native Village of Ouzinkie received 92,207-dollars from the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act to provide affordable housing. The village has recently been in the national spotlight for the money it received from the federal government to build a new airport at the Spruce Island community less than 10 miles north of Kodiak City.
