The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly met let night in a regular session. One item on the meeting agenda was adoption of the assembly's capital improvement projects priority list. The list was approved by the assembly in a unanimous vote.

At the top of the list is funding for a new Department of Fish and Game building. The new building will replace the current Fish and Game headquarters which was built in 1973. The structure is to be built on Near island and will feature more space for research. But should the Kodiak Island Borough constuct a building to house a state-run department? That was a question raised at Thursday (last) night's regular assembly meeting.

In a public comment portion of the meeting, Mel Stevens asked the assembly to drop the Fish and Game Building from its priority list all together.

The funding priorities were approved by the assembly with the Fish and Game building retaining its position at the top of the list.During the assembly comments portion of the meeting some of the assembly members and Mayor Selby expressed why they felt such strong support for the new Fish and Game building.

--          (Funding List 2                                                           " go into this building.")

The assembly's funding priority list now goes to the state Legislature where law makers will determine

how much, if any, state funding will be made available for each of the projects.
