Though it took him all day, Alaska Governor Sean Parnell never quit trying to get to Kodiak on Friday. Due in early in the day to attend the ribbon-cutting of the new KEA wind farm and to inspect the Kodiak Launch Complex, the weather lifted in the late afternoon, and Parnell was finally able to land.

The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce held an informal meet-and-greet reception for the new governor at the Harbor Convention Center, where local dignitaries, such as Senator Gary Stevens said a few words of welcome:

--          (Parnell 1                    32 sec              "I'm really sorry the governor ... confident of that.")

Borough Mayor Jerome Selby added that he believes Kodiak has a friend in the governor's office:

--          (Parnell 2                    23 sec              "Many of use, and I'm one ... enjoy your time here.")

--         Since the theme for the day was energy, Parnell praised Kodiak for its renewable energy projects:

--          (Parnell 3                    59 sec              "It is great to be back in ... be commended for that.")

Before and after the short speeches, Parnell posed for pictures and mingled with the crowd.

--          (Parnell 4                    19 sec              "They just want to know ... or renewable energy.")

Parnell was elected lieutenant governor in 2006, and was sworn in as governor in late July, after Sarah Palin suddenly resigned.
