The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge's 2009 Salmon Camp has been underway for six weeks now. Margo Connolly is the current director of the wildly popular summer program which began in 1996. On Friday, Connolly, joined campers, counselors and parents at the Wildlife Refuge Visitor's Center for the closing day of "Salmon Art Camp."

Along with Salmon Camp director Margo Connolly, we heard Chloe Nelson share her journal with counselor Hannah Hourie. That was Counselor Amanda Fan presenting awards and all the campers and counselors joined in for "The Salmon Song."

Salmon Camp has been recognized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as one of its top five environmental education programs in the nation. The camp is the largest science-based camp in Alaska and is a cooperative effort between the refuge, Alaska Geographic and the Kodiak community.
