With the beginning of practice just one week away, the football schedule for the Kodiak High School Bear's 2009 campaign has been released.

Kodiak travels 950 miles to open the season on the blue Smurf Turf of Barrow against the Whalers on August 8th. Kodiak and Barrow faced off for the first time ever in the second round of playoffs last fall, with the Bears edging the Whalers 19 to 13. Kodiak went on to finish second in the state championships, for the third year in a row, to Soldotna. Barrow and Eielson tied for third.

The Bears play three straight non-conference games to begin the season. After Barrow, Colony visits for the Bear's home opener on August 15th. Then, the Thunder Mountain Falcons from the new Juneau high school will play here the next week.

The home stand continues on September 5th with a visit from the Skyview Panthers to kick off five straight weeks of conference play. The Bears will travel to So-Hi and then Houston, before hosting Kenai in the homecoming game on September 19th. Kodiak will close out the eight-week regular season on the road, the next week against the Mariners in Homer.
