For the 23rd straight year, the Board of Directors for the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce offered a Kodiak High School Senior college funding. Mary Donaldson has more.

Eighteen-year-old Jessie Keplinger is just about to graduate from Kodiak High School, and with 1-thousand dollars towards her college education. She is this year’s Chamber of Commerce scholarship recipient. Keplinger says she was raised in Kodiak and has also been an active high school student over the years.

            (Chamber 2                 :10s     “…and partners club.”)

Besides filling out the application and meeting the grade point average of a two-point five or above, Keplinger and all of the other applicants were required to go in and interview with the Board of Directors. She says she already has broad education goals in mind.

            (Chamber 1                 :17s     “…a couple more years.”)

She also says her scholarship will be applied to the necessary college expenses like tuition, books and student fees and that she is very appreciative for the money.

            (Chamber 3                 :12s     “…every amount helps.”)

There were a total of nine applicants this year. The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce began offering scholarships in 1986 and has donated about 23-thousand dollars to students.

            I’m Mary Donaldson.
