Planning and Zoning Public Hearing

The Borough Planning and Zoning Commission public hearings on the draft revisions to the land use and zoning regulations will continue on February 4th. The sections of Borough Code in the proposed changes are Title 16 Subdivisions; Title 18 Borough Lands; and Title 17 Zoning.

 

The meeting on February 4th begins at 6:30pm in the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. The meeting will be broadcast on KMXT 100.1FM and the public may call in during public comment periods to KMXT at 486-3181. More information, including a side-by-side comparison of the current code and the proposed revisions, and copies of the updated code are available at the Borough Community Development office or online at www.kodiakak.us. If you have any questions about how these regulations may affect your property, please contact staff at 486-9630 or 486-9361.

             The Kodiak Island Borough municipal election results are final. The canvass board count was released Wednesday afternoon, and is due to be certified by the borough assembly at Thursday night's regular meeting.

            Voter turn out was 26 percent borough-wide, with 2,477 people casting ballots. That's just a little bit higher than last year's municipal election where 22 percent turned out.

            While financial markets around the globe try to stave off complete meltdown, the investments of individuals, states and municipalities have taken a hit – with no promise of a federal bail out. Meanwhile, the Kodiak Island Borough's "Shuyak Fund" is weathering the financial storm, but, as Jay Barrett reports, figures aren't in for the last two weeks of Wall Street volatility.

Construction Doesn't Slow Down Ouzinkie School

The school is getting two new student bathrooms, a new food storage area, and a complete overhaul of its aging gym. 0             When the school board and district officials visited Ouzinkie School on Monday, they got a tour of a school that is under heavy construction right now. As KMXT’s Casey Kelly reports, the long delayed projects are bringing some much-needed improvements to the village school.

KHS Tennis: 'End Of Season Is Our Season'

           The Kodiak High School Tennis Team, which is only in its third year, played in its second state championship tournament over the weekend. Head Coach Craig Johnson says twice as many players made the trip to Anchorage than last year, and the team performed well, especially considering their regular season is non-existant.
