Biologist Warns Against Harassing Bears

            Alaska Department of Fish and Game Wildlife Biologist Larry Van Daele is warning Kodiak residents and visitors to stay away from two bears that are frequenting the Bell’s Flats neighborhood.

            The two sub-adult bruins were raiding garbage and homes in the area for about a month, until Van Daele says they were recently persuaded to go after more natural foods, such as berries, fish and vegetation.

            The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce sponsored a candidate forum last night (Tuesday) so voters could get to know the candidates vying for the state House of Representatives seat representing District 36, which includes the Kodiak Island Borough and parts of the Lake and Peninsula Borough. KMXT’s Casey Kelly has more.

Dave Kaplan (middle) and Andy Lundquist (right) square-off in the Democratic race. New Traffic Light On Downtown

            It’s been about a month since the paving of the Y-construction downtown has been completed. The last leg of the updated downtown is a new computerized traffic signal at the intersection of Marine Way and West Rezanof, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of this week.             It's a busy time at Kodiak College. Classes start in two weeks. Next week is open enrollment time and new student orientation, and classes are already filling up. KMXT's Casey Kelly hosts this Talk of the Rock with guests Jenny Myrick, the Kodiak College registrar, English Professor Jared Griffin, and Education Program Director Delany Smith.
