There are now even more votes left to count in the District 36 State House race between Alan Austerman and Andy Lundquist. The Alaska Division of Elections announced this afternoon that there are 565 Questioned Ballots in the close election. Added to the absentee votes still waiting to be counted, and there are 1,946 outstanding votes. That is just about one-third of all the votes cast.

Only 109 votes separate the Republican Austerman and the Democrat Lundquist in their contest to replace Representative Gabrielle LeDoux. District 36 includes the Kodiak Island Borough and parts of the Lake and Peninsula Borough.

There will be another majority coalition in the Alaska State Senate this upcoming session. With Democrats picking up two seats this year, the 20-seat senate is split right down the middle.

Kodiak Senator Gary Stevens, who is now the senate president, put together this year's majority coalition, roughly along the same lines as the one that ran the state senate the past two years. Like before, there are more Democrats than Republicans in the coalition, but this year the difference is even greater.
