Throwback Thursday Contest

***THROWBACK THURSDAY CONTEST***

Send us your best throwback photos! On the day of our fund drive, October 30, we'll post an album of all throwback photos we've received and the photo with the most "likes" on Facebook will win a special KMXT/KODK prize.

A throwback is considered a photo taken before today. So, you could send us a picture from October 20, 2014 and it will still apply! But, really, the older the better. Email your entries to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or post them on our facebook page. We'll gather them into an album for October 30. Good luck!

Early Pledge Drive

tbt_banner.jpg

It's that time of year when we ask for your support to help us continue to bring you the bits of radio that help you stay an informed citizen (like the debates and election updates), an entertained listener (did you hear This American Life's new spinoff, called Serial?), and apprised of community events (the community calendar is always full this time of year).

Not only will you be supporting all of that goodness, but you'll also be entered into a drawing for a set of cross country skis OR a snowboard from Orion's Mountain Sports if you pledge by midnight on October 29! If you're a new member, you'll be entered into a special drawing for a photography package from Simply Lovette Photograpy -- just in time for the holidays.

Lots of great stuff this Fall for our pledge drive, including an entire day of retro radio on October 30 (and great food). Stop by, tune in, and pledge right here via the Donate Now button or by calling 486-3181. Thanks!

Kodiak is such a diverse place that it's no wonder so many people take a long and winding road to get here. Perhaps no one has had a longer road than Kodiak City Councilman Gabriel Saravia, who's gone from being an illegal immigrant to having a seat on the city's ruling body. KMXT's Casey Kelly has more.

Alaska Congressman Don Young campaigned in Kodiak Friday. Young is in a tight race with Democrat Ethan Berkowitz to retain Alaska's lone seat in the US House of Representatives. He took time out from campaigning to talk with KMXT's Casey Kelly. He starts out by talking about why voters should re-elect him to Congress.

Alaska Congressman Don Young speaking with KMXT's Casey Kelly. Young was joined on the campaign trail Friday by Kodiak state house Representative Gabrielle LeDoux, who, along with Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell, ran against him in this year's Republican primary. City Councilwoman Josie Rosales also campaigned with the congressman.

Young faces Democrat Ethan Berkowitz in tomorrow's election. Berkowitz was in Kodiak about a week and a half ago. You can listen to our conversation with him here .

They were 15 minutes ahead of second place, a team comprised of rescue swimmers from Air Station Kodiak. The third place team finished 15 minutes after them, with the fourth place team eight minutes later.

The course, which started at the runway past Roads' End in Chiniak, was run in a minimum of five legs of about 8 miles. Teams could break each leg up into two parts if they had more runners.
