Throwback Thursday Contest

***THROWBACK THURSDAY CONTEST***

Send us your best throwback photos! On the day of our fund drive, October 30, we'll post an album of all throwback photos we've received and the photo with the most "likes" on Facebook will win a special KMXT/KODK prize.

A throwback is considered a photo taken before today. So, you could send us a picture from October 20, 2014 and it will still apply! But, really, the older the better. Email your entries to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or post them on our facebook page. We'll gather them into an album for October 30. Good luck!

Early Pledge Drive

tbt_banner.jpg

It's that time of year when we ask for your support to help us continue to bring you the bits of radio that help you stay an informed citizen (like the debates and election updates), an entertained listener (did you hear This American Life's new spinoff, called Serial?), and apprised of community events (the community calendar is always full this time of year).

Not only will you be supporting all of that goodness, but you'll also be entered into a drawing for a set of cross country skis OR a snowboard from Orion's Mountain Sports if you pledge by midnight on October 29! If you're a new member, you'll be entered into a special drawing for a photography package from Simply Lovette Photograpy -- just in time for the holidays.

Lots of great stuff this Fall for our pledge drive, including an entire day of retro radio on October 30 (and great food). Stop by, tune in, and pledge right here via the Donate Now button or by calling 486-3181. Thanks!

On Friday, the Kodiak High School girls downed North Pole 53-to-32. The Bears were lead by Rachel Norton, who downed 18 points. On Saturday, Kodiak fell to West Valley 54-to-41.

Meanwhile, the Kodiak High School boys were short-handed on their trip to the Interior, and faded in the second half of games against North Pole and West Valley.

On Friday, the North Pole Patriots came from a half-time deficit to down the Bears 61-to-50. Raphael Matautia led Kodiak with 25 points.

Meanwhile, the West Valley Wolfpack also rallied from behind to beat the Bears, though it took overtime to do it. Kodiak lead 36-25 at the half, but succumbed to the full-court press, and were outscored 18-to-9 in the third quarter and 20-to-18 in the fourth, to tie the game at 63 at the end of regulation. Kodiak was outscored 11-to-9 in overtime. David Diocares led all scorers with 35 points, with Matautia adding 19.

The City of Kodiak's Tax-Free day is coming up in just over a month, on Saturday, March 7. The plan was patterned after a similar ordinance enacted in Wrangell. On Tax-Free Day, merchants inside city limits will have the option to charge tax or not.

The city's sales tax is six percent, and there is a limit of 45-dollars for purchases of 750-dollars or more.

To help inform and encourage merchants to participate, the Chamber of Commerce will dedicate its next membership luncheon to the topic. That will take place at the Kodiak Inn on Monday.

On this week's show: Job growth looks good in the longer term for Alaska - except in the fishing industry; SWAMC will hear about fisheries privatization - and those who don't think it's a good idea.
