Phase Four of the City of Kodiak's Aleutian Homes upgrade
project began in earnest yesterday after a period of preparation work. City
officials and Brechan Enterprises, which is under contract to conduct
the work, urged residents of the Thorsheim
Street area and those who walk or drive there to
use caution or avoid the area if at all possible. Phase four, which will
transform much of Thorsheim into a work zone for the next several months, is a
continuation of phases one and two of the project completed on Willow and Cedar Streets over the past two
City engineer Howard Weston said the
nature of the work on Thorsheim Street will be the same type of reconstruction
work done in the first two phases of the project.

and new pavement.")
said phase three of the project, to be done on Maple, was skipped over for
another year due to Kodiak Electric Association's wind power project and the
traffic it generates. He said work will begin on phase three after KEA has
completed its project.

... to do phase three.")
The city has notified
homeowners and businesses in the area of the work being done and is keeping
them informed of the schedule, according to Weston. Brechan
released a safety notice, urging people to use caution when walking or driving near
the construction zone and to inform children not to walk through areas where
crews are working. Weston said it's best to avoid the area altogether if at all
possible and keep a vigilant eye out for exactly where crews are working on any
given day for the duration of the project.
3 11 sec. "They're starting work now ... paved out this year.")
said he is impressed by the work Brechan did in phases one and two of the
project. He said people need only drive down Willow or Cedar Streets to see firsthand the
quality of work the local contractor is capable of. He said residents in
the Thorsheim area can expect the same level of quality and courtesy.

... job in their neighborhood.")
Work on Thorsheim Street is expected to continue
through November 15th, according to Weston. Phase one was
completed on Willow Street
two years ago, and Weston said Brechan is finishing the final landscaping for
phase two now. He said all of the street and utility work on Cedar Street was completed last year.
