The first declared
candidate for next year's gubernatorial election was in Kodiak last week for
ComFish. Bob Poe is a Democrat who's worked for four governors, Bill Sheffield,
Steve Cowper (cooper), Wally Hickel and Tony Knowles. Poe is
probably best known as being responsible for Alaska's year 2000 computer
preparations.
Poe has
embraced the high-tech "Web 2.0" strategy of connecting with Alaskans.
Besides a web site, he also has a Facebook group, a Flickr photo
stream, a YouTube channel, and he regularly issues "tweets" to his Twitter
account.
-- (Poe 1 47
sec "There probably 90 ... having
any problems.")
After
saving the state from the specter of massive Y-2-K computer failures, Poe
continued working for the Knowles Administration:
-- (Poe 2 38
sec "After the Department ...
aviation use for that building.")
Poe
describes himself as a pro-business, pro-development democrat.
-- (Poe 3 47
sec "Alaska's economy really
... is really important in that.")
Poe said he
is in favor of increasing the amount of value-added processing done to
seafoods, and believes quota share fisheries are here to stay:
-- (Poe 4 1:10 "Change is hard ... as the market
changes.")
Poe said it
is what he sees as Governor Palin's lack of progress in several areas that
prompted him to seek the Democratic nomination for governor:
-- (Poe 5 33
sec "But honestly I don't
think ... at the end of the session.")
Poe has
embraced the high-tech "Web 2-point-oh" strategy of connecting with Alaskans.
Besides a web site, he also has a Face-Book group, a Flickr (flicker) photo
stream, a You-Tube channel, and he regularly issues "tweets" to his Twitter
account. You can find out more at Bob Poe dot com.
