The city of Kodiak is one step closer to having a new city manager. The council decided on a local candidate, and Mayor Carolyn Floyd will begin negotiating a contract with her today.

The city council's selection for city manager, Aimee Kniaziowski (kenya-zz'off-ski), is relatively new to Kodiak, but she's no stranger to Alaska or city government:

--         (Manager 1                  33 sec              "We moved here from ... really like it here.")

She said she sees a lot of similarities between Alaska's two major fishing port cities:

--         (Manager 2                  35 sec              "Each town has its own ... noticed that about Kodiak as well.")

Kniaziowski has been in Kodiak and Alaska long enough to have some well-formed thoughts on the economy of towns like this:

--         (Manager 3                  59 sec              "My opinion is that ... the community's resources.")

If all goes well during the negotiations with the mayor, the council is set to approve the hire at its April 21st regular meeting, and Kniaziowski will start her new job on April 27th. That will give her nearly a week working with outgoing manager Linda Freed before she retires.

            I'm Jay Barrett.
