A Coast Guard rescue crew from Air Station Kodiak safely medevac'd an ailing officer from aboard a cargo ship south of Adak Wednesday. The man reportedly suffered from stroke-like symptoms earlier in the week, and the Coast Guard was called in.

An MH-60 Jayhawk and a C-130 Hercules from Kodiak went to Adak on Tuesday and waited for the bulk carrier Sparrow to come within range of the helicopter. The unidentified man was successfully hoisted aboard the helicopter on Wednesday and returned to Adak, where a Life Flight Air Ambulance met them and took him to Anchorage.

The Marshall Island-flagged vessel was en route from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Indonesia. The vessel has resumed its previous course. The man's condition is unknown.
