Kodiak’s volleyball team is the champion of the Northern Lights Conference, and will be heading to the Class 4A state volleyball tournament later this week. The Bears had to make their way through the losers’ bracket after falling to Palmer in five games on Friday.
After dispatching Colony in three games, Kodiak had to beat Palmer twice for the title. In the first match, they downed the Moose in four games, 25-21, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-22, then won the title with a 30-22 victory in the “if necessary tiebreaker” on Saturday.
Hannah Wandersee was named Player of Year in the NLC, with Summer McKechnie and Megan Pyles making the First-Team All-Stars, with Isabelle Riina and Carissa Cannon being named to the Second Team. The Coach of the Year was Kodiak’s Amy Willis.
