The Alaska State Troopers say a woman at Danger Bay on Afognak Island suffered a gunshot wound to her lower left leg on Sunday. Forty-three-year-old Shawn Strauss of Kodiak is an employee of Evergreen Timber.
The Trooper investigation indicated that around 2:30 Sunday afternoon on a beach near the logging camp, the woman was shot in the leg by Ricky Aschenbrenner, her 42-year-old coworker, while trying to remove his 12-gauge shotgun loaded with slugs from their truck.
The woman was transported to Kodiak with non-life-threatening injuries. The Troopers investigated and determined it was an accident and no charges will be filed.
