The second
weekend of the Kodiak High School sports season was another successful one for
the Bears. On the gridiron at home, Kodiak used strong second and
third quarters to win its first conference game, 32-to-12 over the Houston
Hawks. The Bears, who won the season opener last week against the West
Anchorage JV are now 2-and-0 on the season. They will now have three weeks on
the road, playing at Palmer, Thunder Mountain in Juneau and Kenai. When they
return home, the team hopes to debut its new field against archrival Soldotna
on September 15th.
Meanwhile
on the trails, the Kodiak cross country boys appear strong again this year,
taking first and second in the Bartlett Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore
Levi Thomet won in 16-minutes 1-second, shaving 25 seconds off his previous
personal best time. Senior Cole Christiansen, was just three seconds short of
his personal best, finishing in 16-minutes 7-seconds. Levi Fried was 8th
at 16:39, as the Kodiak boys took third with 94 points behind West Valley's 33
and Service's 75.
