Summer
comes to an official close for some Kodiak residents this week as the Kodiak Island Borough School District
kicks into full gear. The Kodiak High School holds its first day of classes on
Thursday, but things get a little more complicated when you move on to other
schools in the district.
At the Kodiak Middle
School, 7th and 8th graders
will start on Thursday as well, but the first day for 6th graders
isn't until Friday. Thursday is reserved for 6th grade family
conferences, easing the transition from elementary to middle school.
Speaking of
elementary schools, across the district 1st through 5th
graders will start on Friday, with family conferences being held on Thursday.
Summer runs a bit longer for any soon-to-be kindergarteners. Their first day of
school is August 30, giving them a little more time to prepare for the academic
adventure that awaits.
Village
schools will follow the same pattern as town schools, with all secondary grades
beginning on Thursday, followed by elementary grades on Friday.
Aside from
kindergarteners, all schools will begin their first full week of classes next
Monday, August 27, wrapping up with a three day weekend in observance of Labor
Day on September 3.
