There's
been some big fishing days in the past week around the Kodiak Management Area,
with more than a half-million humpies being hauled in on a daily basis. In
fact, according to Fish and Game reports, nearly a full million - 916,853 to be
exact - were harvested on Friday.
Through
Sunday's openings the pink catch stood at 12,036,149, bringing the area's
five-species total so far to 14,718,389.
Chum salmon
have been surging, with a season catch through Sunday of 746,520. Sockeye
continue to be caught in the area around 10,000 per day, edging the season
total toward 2-million - the red catch stands, through Sunday, at 1,861,426.
The silver
catch has been reliably coming in around 5,000 per day, and stands at is 61,149
for the season. And each day there are about 40 or so late, and quite possibly
confused, king salmon being harvested, with a season total now just over
13,000.
