Details and
specifics about the Monday visit to Kodiak by singer Pitbull are emerging.
According to a promoter, his main public appearance will be at the
Coast Guard's Lake Louise housing area at the Nemetz Gazebo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday Era Aviation announced they will be participating by setting up
large tents at the event to shield the public in case it rains.
To the
disappointment of many, Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Perez, will not be
putting on a concert, or likely even singing at all. But he will be available
to pose for pictures with the public, and will help when Walmart gives two
local charities donation at the appearance.
Pitbull is
visiting the Kodiak following an online social media campaign with Walmart and
Sheets Energy Strips that awarded a visit by the entertainer to the Walmart
store that got the most "likes" on its Facebook page. The Walmart in Kodiak won
with more than 70,000 "likes," but most were cast at the urging of a Boston
columnist who started his own media campaign to Exile Pitbull to the
farthest-flung Walmart in America, which happened to be Kodiak. Despite the
attempt at high-jacking the contest, writer David Thorpe of the Boston Phoenix
will be joining Pitbull in town at the singer's request.
Era
Aviation is also offering a special $305 round-trip airfare between Anchorage
and Kodiak as part of the promotion. The price comes from the name of Pitbull's record
label, "Mr. 305." The special tickets are only available Sunday, Monday and
Tuesday.
There's no
word if Pitbull, known as the jet-setting "Mr. Worldwide," will be flying to
town on Era's Dash-8, or the even smaller Beechcraft 1900.
