Legislators,
educators and aerospace industry representatives will be in Anchorage this week
for a hearing on the future of Alaska's role in space. Kodiak Senator Gary
Stevens, the Senate President, says he called the summit to take a closer look
at the challenges facing Alaska's commercial space industry and how the state
and the university might help advance it.
-- (Aerospace 1 36 sec "Lockheed will be there ... to make sure this is a success.")
The state
gave the Alaska Aerospace Corporation $30-million dollars for its Kodiak Launch
Complex in this year's capital budget. It is the most funding any Kodiak-area
project received from the state this year:
-- (Aerospace 2 23 sec "As you know we were able ... which is needed by the
country.")
In addition
to representatives from Lockheed Martin, Alaska Aerospace Corporation, business
leaders and officials from the University of Alaska, Stevens says he has
invited all the state's legislators:
-- (Aerospace 3 19 sec "Yeah, I think there will be ... that's what we're really
doing.")
The
aerospace summit will be at the Legislative Information Office in Anchorage on
Thursday, starting at 8:30 a.m. The hearing is open to the public.
