The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce will be receiving an award for its yearly clean up efforts - the most recent of which was last Saturday. ALPAR, Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling, will be presenting the award, along with a number of others to organizations and individuals around the state, at its annual awards banquet tonight in Anchorage. ALPAR has presented these awards since 1983.

Chamber Executive Director Trevor Brown called the award is an honor for the chamber and the community. He said it is also great recognition for the Clean Up Day event sponsors and all the volunteers who make this possible. Brown and Greg Deal will be attending the dinner this evening to accept the award on behalf of the Chamber.

The top litter prevention and recycling award went to the Anchorage School District for its new system-wide paper recycling program as well as its "Little Sweepers" program that involves hundreds of kids in neighborhood clean ups.
