in the Kodiak Island Borough go to the polls five weeks from today they will
see a lot of empty spaces on the ballot. The final candidate list was released
at 5 o’clock on Friday by the Kodiak Island Borough Clerk’s Office.
On both the
assembly and the school board there are only two people running for three
vacancies. There are three service areas with no candidates at all. In
fact, the only election with a full slate of candidate won’t even be a race.
That’s in the Womens Bay Service Area Board, where three men are running for
assembly, only one of three incumbents, Sue Jeffrey, is seeking re-election.
Reed Oswalt and long time assemblyman Tom Abell did not file. Jeffrey is joined
on the ballot by Judy Fulp.
school board, incumbents Jeff Stephan and Peggy Rauwolf are seeking the pair of
seats for three-year terms, while the seat that is open for one year has no
contenders. Current school board President Betty Odell is not seeking
One of two
seats in the Fire Protection Area Number One has a candidate, that’s incumbent
Mike Dolph. And on the Women’s Bay Board, the three candidates are Scott
Griffin, David Heuman, and John Isadore.
Area Number 1, the Bay View Road Board and the Monashka Bay Road Board have
five seats open, but no takers at all.
deadline to file for one of the two Kodiak City Council seats is this Friday.
As of last report, only incumbent Tom Walters has signed up, while incumbent
Charlie Davidson has announced he will not seek a sixth consecutive term.
