The Kodiak High School cross-country team had a good showing at the Skyview Invitational over the weekend in Soldotna. More than 800 runners from around the state gathered at the Tsalteshi (salt-esh-ee) Trails for the first large meet of the year.

Once again, Kodiak’s Trevor Dunbar has established himself as the runner to beat, winning the boys’ race in 15-minutes 38-seconds. Right behind him was another Kodiak standout, Sam Salus, who finished in 15-53. Dylan Anthony placed sixth in 16-37.

Despite taking the first two places and placing three in the top 10, the Kodiak boys tied for third overall with Grace Christian. Service won the meet, with West Anchorage second.

Dunbar told the Peninsula Clarion newspaper that he was confident coming into the race, though felt he was “kind of slow” in the first kilometer.

In the girls’ race, Kodiak’s Chloe Ivanoff was third, finishing in 19-minutes 45-seconds. The girls were ninth, with West Anchorage first overall.
