The Kodiak
Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Small Business and Economic Development
summit on Wednesday at the Kodiak Inn. Lale Gurer is the
new economic development specialist with the chamber, and is organizing the
event.
The chamber
is partnering with the Southwest Alaska Municipal Conference and the Federal
Reserve Bank in San Francisco. But, the Federal
Reserve representative won't be the only banker speaking. Amanda Clayton of Key
Bank and Mark Anderson of First National Bank of Alaska will be on a panel
discussing how financial institutions can assist small businesses.
Also
speaking will be Kodiak Island Borough Mayor Jerome Selby and Will Anderson of
Koniag Incorporated. Glenn Haight, the development manager for the state's
Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development will also give a
presentation.
Gurer
says two local business owners will talk about successful business formation.
They are Ben Millstein of Kodiak Island Brewing Company and
Barbara Hughes of Pickled Willies, a relatively new business in town.
The summit
will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Harbor Room of the Kodiak Inn.
It's free to attend, but preregistration is required. It can be done online at
the chamber of commerce website. Here's a copy of the
