Members of
Kodiak's Lions Club will be out and about Saturday looking to raise funds to
help advance its mission in fighting blindness around the world. The Lions
members usually raise funds on what is known as "White Cane Day," dedicated to
sight conservation, but according to Lions President Judi Kidder, this year
they have a specific goal in mind for the money they raise: to spend it on a local project.
-- (Lions 1 27 sec "This
year it's my presidential ... slips through the cracks.")
She said
children especially need regular eye check-ups as they grow so that preventable
conditions can be caught early.
-- (Lions 2 31 sec "One
of the really important ... preventable eye care.")
Kidder says
Lions members will be at several locations throughout the day:
-- (Lions 3 21 sec "There
will be Lions out in the ... will make a huge difference.")
As Kidder
said, the machine, the Plus Optix S-09, is portable and can provide a
preliminary diagnosis in under a minute. She said the subject of the test will
be given the results, and if need be, told to visit an eye doctor for further
evaluation.
