It was
Friday Night Lights for the Kodiak High School Bears, as they opened the 2011
varsity football season in Houston.
They beat
the Hawks 34-18 on several big plays, including two touchdowns in the first
three minutes of the third quarter to break open the 6-6 half-time tie.
Charlie
Johnson had a 53-yard touchdown run and moments later Chris Kamai went in from
six yards out, four plays after Kodiak recovered a Houston fumble.
Kodiak had
a balanced attack with several big plays, including eight runs of 11 yards or
more and five catches of 12 yards or more.
Johnson had
four receptions for 57 yards and 11 rushes for 120 yards, while Kevin Lepola
was 7-for-12 with no interceptions for 121 yards at quarterback.
The Bears
are now 1-0 in Northern Lights Conference play, and over-all. They have a bye
this week and will open at home on the 27th against the Skyview
Panthers.
