This
weekend’s Relay For Life event in Kodiak raised more than 47-thousand 700
dollars for the American Cancer Society.
The
event featured about 21 teams of eight to 15 people each walking around the
track at Baranof field for 24 hours, from Friday night to Saturday. One of the
organizers Pam Foreman estimates that close to 300 people turned out as
participants and spectators.
Besides
the relay other events included a candlelight vigil, a live auction, and the
quarter mile, which was an attempt to line the outside of the track with
quarters to create a quarter mile. Although they weren’t able to get all of the
quarters needed to line the entire track, Foreman says that the event raised
more than 25-hundred dollars.
Foreman
says organizers are “very, very pleased with the amount raised.”
