Members of
the Senate majority addressed questions about the supplemental and capital
budgets during a press conference yesterday in Juneau. There is less than a
month left in the session, and the budgets to fund programs that have seen
increases since last year and provide funds for summer construction have yet to
be finalized.
Bethel
Senator Lyman Hoffman said the Senate has several priorities it is acting on.
-- (Budget 1 32 sec "Well,
on the supplemental ... marine highway vessel.")
An
operating budget was passed out of the Senate Finance Committee yesterday
afternoon.
Sitka
Senator Bert Steadman said the state may be able to put into savings one dollar
for every dollar in state spending, but that the capital budget is what he
calls, "aggressive:"
-- (Budget 2 31 sec "I
know some people ... see us respond to it.")
Kodiak's
Gary Stevens, the Senate President, said there are few specifics as to what his
district might receive in the capital budget:
-- (Budget 3 4 sec "And
whatever the amount ... work on that ...(laughter")
The
legislative session is schedule to end on April 17th.
