The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly tonight (Thurs.) takes public hearing on a plan to create a new workforce council designed to create jobs and train people to work them.

The proposed Kodiak Workforce Regional Advisory Council would be made up of local educators, business people and professional craftsmen, among others. The council would study trends and encourage job seekers to pursue a career in the areas expected to have openings in the future. In some cases the council would work with the high school and college to train new-comers in various fields.

In other business, the assembly will consider a resolution adopting a three-year schedule for re-evaluating taxable property on the road system, and a five-year schedule for remote, rural properties.

The Assembly will also consider in first reading an ordinance that changes the date for filing personal property tax returns.

Tonight's assembly meeting begins at 7:30 in the assembly chambers. It will be broadcast live on KMXT.
