A 20-year-old man is dead after drowning in Old
Harbor this weekend. Joshua Ignatin reportedly fell off the city dock in Old
Harbor at about 6:30 Saturday morning.
Two Coast Guard
helicopters from Air Station Kodiak and an Alaska State Trooper dive team
joined the Old Harbor village public safety officer, three local boats, and
numerous volunteers in the search. The diver found Ignatin’s body underwater
near the city dock shortly before noon on Saturday.
Troopers’
Spokeswoman Megan Peters says an officer is in Old Harbor investigating the
circumstances surrounding his death.
(Drowning 1 :14s “…at
figuring out those details.”)
Peters says she
should know more tomorrow (today), although part of the investigation will
include a routine autopsy and toxicology screen, which could take several weeks
to months to complete.
(Drowning 2 :09s “…on
what actually happened.”)
Ignatin’s older brother, John, drowned in the same
location a few years ago when he fell off the dock after consuming alcohol.
