If you're a business owner, or are thinking a small business is in your future, you may want to sign up for several special training sessions being held in Kodiak on Monday and Tuesday the 16th and 17th.

Sponsored by the state's Small Business Development Center, two workshops are slated as well as a free business counseling session for individual business owners.

The "Business Start-up Workshop" runs 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. The instructor will identify skills, provide information, and give resources that will help you start a business on Kodiak Island. The start-up workshop is free.

The Monday afternoon session - titled "Everyone Needs a Business Plan" - will guide you through ways to strengthen your business plan by creating meaningful narratives that describe your business goals. It will help you establish budgets, plan strategies for marketing and give you techniques for evaluating your successes and failures. The business plan workshop costs $40.

The instructor for the workshops is Bryan Zak who is the South West Regional Director of the Alaska Small Business Development Center. In addition to the Monday sessions, Zak will also be available on Tuesday for free client counseling.

The workshops and business counseling will be held at the chamber of commerce building at the ferry dock. The deadline for sign-up is today (Friday).

For more information contact the Alaska Small Business Development Center, or call the chamber of commerce office.
