Bartlett Golden Bears won their third straight state track and field championships over
the weekend at the state meet in Fairbanks, edging out the Service Cougars in
the last race for the victory. With 64 points, the Kodiak Bears took third to
Service's 76 and Bartlett's 80. The Kodiak boys were led by Karsten Schick, who
swept the hurdles, winning the 110-meter race in 15.16-seconds and the 300 in
Dylan Anthony was second in the 1,600, while the 4-by-400 and 4-by-800 relay
teams took second as well.
out the top five, South Anchorage was fourth, with East Anchorage and West
Valley tied for fifth.
girls' side, the Lady Bears finished 13th, with 11 points. Their top
performance came from Jaymi Bethea, who was second in the
1,600-meter race, with a time of 5-minutes 13.7-seconds. She was eighth in the
800-meters, while the girls' 4-by-800 relay team took sixth.
girls won the event with 80 points, while Bartlett was second with 56, followed
by Kenai, Wasilla and West Valley.
